Course Objectives

(1) Understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral and central vestibular system. (2) Present evidence on the effectiveness of vestibular rehab in the geriatric population. (3) Know how to implement a vestibular evaluation for a patient demonstrating dizziness or balance dysfunction. (4) Differentiate dizziness caused by central verse peripheral vestibular disorder using the HiNTs exam. (5) Demonstrate proper BPPV assessment and treatment of horizontal and posterior semicircular canals (6) Identify functional deficits related to vestibular dysfunction to include but not limited to gaze stabilization, sensory integration, visual motion sensitivity, and motion sensitivity. (7) Implementation of evidence-based treatments to address these functional deficits. (8) Apply evaluation skills and treatments using video based case studies to improve knowledge translation of newly learned skills.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Christina Garrity has practiced neurologic and vestibular physical therapy since 2012. She is a board certified neurologic clinical specialist. She has served as adjunct faculty for multiple Doctor of Physical Therapy Programs. In 2022, she founded Labyrinth Physical Therapy & Wellness, an outpatient specialty practice helping patients with neurological and vestibular disorders. She is pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences.
